Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a narrowed aortic valve that fails to open properly — a condition known as aortic stenosis.
Instead of open-heart surgery, the new valve is inserted through a catheter placed in a blood vessel, typically in the leg.
TAVR may be recommended for patients who have severe aortic stenosis and are considered higher risk for traditional open-heart valve surgery.
During the procedure, the new valve is delivered through a catheter and expanded into place within the existing valve. This allows blood to flow normally through the heart once again.
Many patients experience improved breathing, energy levels, and overall quality of life following treatment.
