🫀 Pericarditis

What is Pericarditis?

Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium — the thin sac that surrounds the heart. This inflammation can cause sharp chest pain and other symptoms.

Pericarditis may develop after viral infections, heart surgery, heart attack, or autoimmune conditions.

Treatment

Most cases of pericarditis are treated with medications that reduce inflammation and relieve pain. In many patients the condition resolves completely with proper care.
